A fun challenge for both novices and sprinters, staged along Clevedon’s historic seafront. It’s the perfect opportunity to swim and run through history, from 1869 when the pier opened to 1929 when the lake opened, open to all, all in one day in 2020!

Celebrating the 91st anniversary of the opening of Clevedon Marine Lake – open access, open to all, year round. On the Saturday of May Day weekend, Marlens will host its fifth annual Lake Day to kick off a season full of life and activity on the lake, with taster sessions for children and other fun stuff lakeside.

Some brave swimmers will be going for their annual New Year’s Day dip at Clevedon Marine Lake. Spectators are very welcome to come along and watch dippers take the plunge. The bucket collection will be for Marlens, the charity behind the management and further development of Clevedon Marine Lake.

An evening of celebration for people who love Clevedon Marine Lake. Starting at dusk at The Pier and culminating in MARLENS‘ ‘Night Glow’ at the lake, with a mesmerising dance display by Darklyte Fire Collective and other illuminating spectacles.

CONCORDE MUSEUM VISIT
Join MARLENS’ supersonic trip to the Concorde Museum at Filton. Step aboard the last Concorde to fly and embark on a fun, hands-on journey through aviation history. 2019 marks 50 years since Concorde’s maiden flight – from Toulouse on 2nd March 1969, with the first British flight leaving Filton on 9th April.

Just two weeks after the curtain closes on the biggest classical music festival on earth, Clevedon will host its very own tumultuous musical celebration. A rousing night of popular music and singalong songs to raise funds to maintain and develop Clevedon Marine Lake.

Entries are open for Weston-super-Mare’s Open Water Development Series at Clevedon Marine Lake. The Series is open to all Clubs in the South West and beyond. The events include progressive distances ranging from 750m to 5k. It’s a great opportunity to dip your toe into competitive open water swimming if you haven’t before!

AVON GORGE BOAT TRIP
A trip to the Bristol Channel you’ll never forget! Marlens is hosting a cruise down the Avon Gorge on ‘Tower Belle’, starting from Wapping Wharf (SS Great Britain Dock). The three and a half hour cruise includes locking out at the Cumberland Basin onto the tidal river, dramatic views of Brunel’s Suspension Bridge, the Avon Gorge, M5 Bridge and the Bristol Channel.

Thanks to a collaboration between Marlens, Clevedon Sailing Club and Clevedon Canoe Club, and donations from YANSEC (sailing dinghies) and Palm Equipment International Ltd. (kayaks), there is a community fleet and ancillary equipment available for use on Clevedon Marine Lake, comprising:
- 8 Oppie dinghies
- 2 Pico advanced training dinghies
- 7 kayaks
- 2 open, Canadian style canoes
Any organisation wishing to use the dinghies and/or canoes should contact the respective Club(s).

SOUTH AVON CANOE CLUB
SACC is a club serving the South of Bristol and North Somerset. Founded in 1987, SACC is a club for people looking to paddle with friends old and new, whether you are a beginner starting out and wanting to develop your skills or an experienced paddler looking to have fun and make new friends. SACC has over 160 members, made up of individuals, families and accompanied children, who enjoy recreational paddling on placid water, white water and the sea, whatever the weather.

A supervised session for children aged 8 and above, covering basic understanding of how a boat sails as well as learning steering and handling skills. An RYA accredited training centre whose aim is to teach 10-17 year olds the sailing skills they need to progress from the safety of Clevedon Marine Lake to the more demanding environment of the Bristol Channel.

CLEVEDON CANOE CLUB
CCC runs instructed paddling sessions on Clevedon Marine Lake for children aged 8 and above on the first Wednesday of every month at 6pm and the third Sunday of every month at 9am, aimed at learning and improving canoeing and kayaking skills, on a range of craft including Sit On Tops, Kayaks and Open Canoes.

PAC-TRI
Pac-Tri runs a series of progressive open water swimming sessions on Clevedon Marine Lake during the summer months. These take place once a month on a Sunday morning, 8am-9am. Each session is tailored to the different skills required for competitive triathlon swimming in open water, and the introduction covers acclimatisation, anxieties, the environment and kit.
